The complete guide to mastering the world's most popular Chinese tile-matching puzzle
Clear the entire board by matching pairs of identical tiles. The game is won when no tiles remain. Each level increases in complexity — can you beat all 10?
A tile is free to select only if both its left edge and right edge are open. A tile with another tile sitting on top of it is also blocked. The visual highlight system helps you identify eligible tiles — valid tiles will have a subtle glow when you hover over them.
Mahjong uses 34 unique tile types across several suits. Knowing these helps you spot matches faster:
Numbers 1 through 9, marked with Chinese numerals (一, 二, 三...) and the character 萬 (ten-thousand). These are the most common tiles.
Numbers 1 through 9, depicted as bamboo stalks. Tile 1 is usually a bird (sparrow).
Numbers 1 through 9, shown as circular dots (coins).
East (東), South (南), West (西), North (北). Only 4 of each exist per game.
Red Dragon (中), Green Dragon (發), White Dragon (白). Rare but important tiles.
These are special bonus tiles. Unlike other tiles, any Season can match any Season and any Flower can match any Flower — they don't need to be identical.
Always match tiles that free up the most other tiles. Removing a tile on a stack edge often unlocks 2-3 tiles underneath. Think two moves ahead — a good match now might be a trap if it blocks your next move.
If you spot 4 identical tiles, plan which two pairs to match first. Matching the "wrong" pair can trap the remaining two behind other tiles. Always match the most blocked pair first.
The central/highest stack is usually the bottleneck. Clear it from the top down. Don't get distracted by easy matches on the edges — the center holds the key to completion.
Don't shuffle at the first sign of trouble. Exhaust your visible options first. A well-timed shuffle in Level 7-10 can save a run that has only 4-6 tiles left.
For leaderboard times, memorize common tile patterns. The Winds and Dragons tiles appear only in specific positions on each layout. Knowing where to find 發 on Level 3 saves precious seconds.

There is no fail timer — you can take as long as you need. The timer tracks your speed for the leaderboard, but a slow completion still counts as a win.
Yes — any Season matches any other Season, and any Flower matches any other Flower. They don't need to be the same number.
Complete levels with fast times! After beating Level 10, you can submit your total time to the global leaderboard. The faster you clear all levels, the higher you rank.
