๐Ÿ€„ Mahjong Solitaire

Also known as "Shanghai Solitaire" โ€” the most popular Chinese tile-matching game worldwide

Objective

Clear the entire board by matching pairs of identical tiles. The game is won when no tiles remain on the board.

How to Play

  1. Find free tiles: A tile is "free" when it has no tile directly to its left AND right. Tiles on the edges are always free on one side.
  2. Select a pair: Click on a free tile to select it (it will highlight in red), then click on another free tile with the SAME symbol.
  3. Match: If both tiles are identical and free, they will be removed from the board, and you earn points.
  4. Continue: Keep matching pairs until all tiles are gone.

Scoring System

  • Each successful match: +10 points
  • Combo bonus (consecutive matches within 3 seconds): +5 ร— combo count
  • Faster completion = higher leaderboard ranking (time is a tiebreaker)

Special Buttons

  • ๐Ÿ’ก Hint: Highlights a valid pair on the board. Use when stuck.
  • ๐Ÿ”€ Shuffle: Randomly rearranges all remaining tiles. Useful when no moves are left.
  • โ†ฉ Undo: Reverts your last matched pair. No point penalty for careful play.
  • โฏ Pause: Freezes the timer so you can take a break.
๐Ÿ’ก Pro Tips:

Always prioritize matching tiles that free up other tiles โ€” removing a tile on the edge often unlocks 2-3 more tiles. Think two moves ahead. If you see the same symbol 4 times, plan which two to match first to maximize board access.

Tile Symbols Guide

The Mahjong set uses 34 unique tile types across these suits:

  • Characters (๐Ÿ€‡-๐Ÿ€): Numbers 1-9, marked with Chinese numerals
  • Bamboo (๐Ÿ€™-๐Ÿ€ก): Numbers 1-9, depicted as bamboo stalks
  • Dots (๐Ÿ€-๐Ÿ€˜): Numbers 1-9, shown as circular dots
  • Winds (๐Ÿ€€-๐Ÿ€ƒ): East, South, West, North
  • Dragons (๐Ÿ€„-๐Ÿ€†): Red, Green, White

๐Ÿงฉ Klotski โ€” Hua Rong Dao

An ancient Chinese sliding block puzzle dating back 2,000 years, based on the legend of Cao Cao's escape

The Story

During the Three Kingdoms period, the warlord Cao Cao was trapped at Hua Rong Dao (Huarong Pass). The puzzle represents his escape: you must slide the blocks representing heroes and soldiers to clear a path for the 2ร—2 "Cao Cao" block to exit through the bottom opening.

Objective

Move the large 2ร—2 block (Cao Cao) to the bottom-center exit of the board.

How to Play

  1. Select a piece: Click on any block to select it. Valid pieces will highlight.
  2. Move: Click on an adjacent empty cell in the direction you want the piece to slide.
  3. Sliding only: Pieces can only slide horizontally or vertically into empty spaces. No rotation or jumping allowed.
  4. Win condition: The large 2ร—2 block reaches the bottom-center opening.

Piece Types

  • 2ร—2 Block (Cao Cao): The largest piece โ€” your goal target
  • 1ร—2 Vertical (Generals): Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, Ma Chao, Huang Zhong
  • 2ร—1 Horizontal (Guan Yu): The horizontal blocker โ€” often the key obstacle
  • 1ร—1 (Soldiers): Small pieces that fill gaps
๐Ÿ’ก Pro Tips:

The standard layout requires exactly 81 moves for the optimal solution. Start by clearing the four small soldiers from the area below Cao Cao. The horizontal 2ร—1 block (Guan Yu) is usually the biggest obstacle โ€” you often need to move it out of the way first, then back. Work from the edges inward, creating a pathway down the center.

Difficulty Levels

Klotski has many starting configurations. Our game offers:

  • Beginner: Fewer pieces, simpler path (20-30 moves)
  • Classic: The standard "Heng Dao Li Ma" layout (81 moves optimal)
  • Expert: Complex configurations with tight spaces (100+ moves)

ๆž— Hanzi Match

Deconstruct and rebuild Chinese characters โ€” a radical approach to language puzzles

Objective

Use your knowledge of Chinese character structure to combine radicals (ๅๆ—้ƒจ้ฆ–) into complete characters. Each level presents a target character โ€” your task is to find the correct components and assemble them.

How to Play

  1. See the target: A Chinese character appears as your goal.
  2. Pick radicals: Select the correct components from the pool on the left.
  3. Place them: Drag components into the correct position (left/right, top/bottom, or surround structure).
  4. Verify: If the combination is correct, you earn points and advance to the next character.

Character Structures

  • Surround (ๅŒ…
Pro Tips:

Don't worry if you don't know Chinese! The game teaches you organically. Start with simple characters (ไผ‘ = person + tree = to rest). Pay attention to radical positions โ€” ๆœจ on the left means "wood-related" while on the right it's a phonetic component. The game includes a hint system that shows the structure type.

Levels

  • Easy (Level 1-10): Common characters with 2 obvious components
  • Medium (Level 11-30): 3+ components, less obvious combinations
  • Hard (Level 31-50): Complex characters, rare radicals, tricky structures

๐Ÿบ Pitch-Pot โ€” Touhu

A 2,500-year-old noble court game โ€” now a physics-based arcade challenge

Historical Background

Touhu (ๆŠ•ๅฃถ, literally "throw into the pot") was a popular drinking game among Chinese aristocrats during the Zhou Dynasty (1046-256 BC). Guests would take turns throwing arrows into a bronze pot from a set distance. Missing meant you had to drink!

Objective

Throw arrows into the bronze pot to score points. Aim for the narrow mouth for maximum points. The player with the highest score after 10 throws wins.

How to Play

  1. Aim: Click and hold on the arrow. Drag to adjust the angle of your throw.
  2. Power: The distance you drag determines the throwing force โ€” longer drag = more power.
  3. Release: Let go to throw the arrow. Watch its parabolic trajectory!
  4. Wind factor: Pay attention to the wind indicator at the top โ€” it affects your arrow's flight path.

Scoring Zones

  • Center hit (mouth): 50 points โ€” the hardest shot
  • Inner ring: 30 points โ€” hit near the opening
  • Pot body: 10 points โ€” any contact with the pot
  • Near miss: 5 points โ€” arrow lands within 10px of the pot
  • Miss: 0 points โ€” arrow flies past or falls short
๐Ÿ’ก Pro Tips:

The key to Touhu is consistent power, not maximum power. Find the sweet spot (about 60-70% power on default distance) and practice hitting it consistently. For wind compensation: if wind blows left, aim slightly right of the pot. The arrow's arc is steeper at higher power โ€” use this to your advantage for pots at different distances.

๐Ÿงฎ Abacus Enigma

Slide beads to solve arithmetic mysteries โ€” the world's first calculator reimagined as a puzzle

Objective

Manipulate the beads on an ancient abacus (suanpan, ็ฎ—็›˜) to match a target number. Each level presents a different mathematical challenge โ€” from simple numbers to complex equations.

How the Abacus Works

A Chinese abacus has columns representing decimal places. Each column has:

  • 2 Heaven beads (upper deck): Each bead = value 5 when pushed down to the beam
  • 5 Earth beads (lower deck): Each bead = value 1 when pushed up to the beam

For example: 1 heaven bead (5) + 3 earth beads (3) = 8 on that column.

How to Play

  1. Read the target: A number appears at the top of the screen.
  2. Set columns: Each column (from right to left) represents units, tens, hundreds, etc.
  3. Click beads: Click heaven beads to push them down (adds 5). Click earth beads to push them up (adds 1 each).
  4. Submit: When the abacus shows the correct number, click Submit to score and advance.

Game Modes

  • Number Mode: Match the displayed number on the abacus. Simple and educational.
  • Equation Mode: Solve arithmetic problems (e.g., "123 + 456") by displaying the result.
  • Speed Mode: Answer as many as you can within 60 seconds. Tests your abacus fluency!
๐Ÿ’ก Pro Tips:

Think of the abacus as a 5+4 system per column. For the number 7, use 1 heaven bead (5) + 2 earth beads (2) = 7. This is always faster than counting 7 earth beads. In speed mode, pre-position your mouse over the heaven beads since they're used for all numbers above 4. A fun fact: skilled abacus users can calculate faster than electronic calculators!

Number Examples

Let's build 3,728 on the abacus:

  • Thousands column (3): 0 heaven + 3 earth = 3
  • Hundreds column (7): 1 heaven (5) + 2 earth (2) = 7
  • Tens column (2): 0 heaven + 2 earth = 2
  • Units column (8): 1 heaven (5) + 3 earth (3) = 8
